About Author

Conyers is the only city in Rockdale County, and it is home to the Georgia International Horse Park. The Horse Park was the official equestrian venue for the 1996 Olympic Games. From equestrian and mountain bike events, to fairs and rodeos, to concerts and races, this venue hosts events year-round. If you love historic homes, you’ll love walking, bicycling, or golf carting through the residential historic district of Olde Town. Many of the homes were built in the early 1900’s during the Craftsman Cottage Bungalow era. And for over 20 years, the holiday Tour of Homes has been a community favorite. You can also bike six miles of trail or pop into a shop, restaurant, the botanical garden, or community theatre for a play.

Dining

Two Eggs! is a popular brunch destination in Conyers. Reviewers rave about the fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, and atmosphere. Coaxum’s Low Country Cuisine is serving up Sea Island cuisine influenced by the Gullah people of South Carolina. Popular dishes include their fried catfish, mac n cheese, and sweet potato soufflé. Reviewers rave about the service as well.

Hidden Gem

The Monastery of the Holy Spirit is a Roman Catholic monastery deep in the forest of Conyers sitting on over 2,300 acres. It’s a great place to enjoy a nature walk on the trails or simply meditate. The church is breathtaking with more than 40 arches, 20 of which are more than four stories high. It’s the largest hand-poured cement Gothic structure. The monks have a bakery that produces fudge and biscotti, amongst other yummy goodies. They also sell 100% local honey harvested from wildflower nectar as well as books and religious items.
